How to Prepare for Your Photoshoot (So You Actually Enjoy It)
A lot of people tell me "I'm awkward in front of the camera" before we even start. Almost everyone says it, and almost everyone is wrong by the end of the session. The secret is preparation. When you know what to expect, you relax, and that's when the best photos happen.
How a session with me works
1. Book online. Pick your session and time on the site. A 50% deposit holds your date
2. We plan it together. I'll reach out to talk location, outfits and the vibe you're going for, so nothing is a surprise
3. Shoot day. I guide you through posing and movement the whole time. You don't need to know what to do with your hands, that's my job
4. Your gallery. Your edited photos are delivered in a private online gallery within 7 to 14 days
The week before
Choose your outfits and try them on together. Check how they look sitting, walking and in the mirror
Save a few photos you like on Instagram or Pinterest and send them my way. It helps a lot
Get a fresh cut, lining or nails a few days out, not the night before
Check the weather. If it looks bad, we'll reschedule or move to the studio
The day before
Steam or iron everything
Drink water and get some sleep. It really shows on camera
Pack a small bag: extra outfit, comb or brush, lip balm, water, blotting paper
Shoot day
Eat something before you come so you have energy
Show up 10 minutes early so you're not rushing
Bring your playlist if music hypes you up
Tell me what you love and don't love about yourself in photos. I'll work with it
How to look natural on camera
Move. Walk, laugh, adjust your jacket, play with your hair. Motion looks natural, freezing looks stiff
Breathe out before the shot and drop your shoulders
Think of something or someone that makes you smile instead of forcing one
Trust the process. The first 10 minutes are a warm up, and that's normal
After your session
You'll get your gallery within 7 to 14 days. Download your favorites, post them and tag @deejay.visuals so I can share the love. And if you had a good time, a quick review means the world to me.
