Best Photoshoot Locations in Jacksonville, FL: A Local Photographer's Picks
Jacksonville is one of the most underrated cities in Florida for photos. We've got historic neighborhoods, a river running through downtown, old oak trees, and miles of beach, all within about a 30 minute drive. After shooting over 100 clients around the city, these are the spots I keep coming back to and why.
1. Riverside and Avondale
If you want that warm, editorial, lived-in look, Riverside is it. Brick buildings, colorful walls around Five Points, porches with character, and tree-lined streets that give you shade even in the middle of summer.
Best for: lifestyle portraits, couples, brand content
Best time: late afternoon, when the light gets soft between the buildings
2. Memorial Park
Right on the St. Johns River in Riverside, Memorial Park gives you open lawn, big trees and a clean river backdrop. It's an easy pick for families because there's room to move and the kids can actually run around.
Best for: family sessions, graduation photos, relaxed portraits
Best time: the last hour before sunset
3. Treaty Oak Park
The massive live oak in this little Southbank park is hundreds of years old, and it photographs like a dream. The branches and moss make a natural frame, and the shade keeps light even on bright days.
Best for: portraits with a soft, timeless feel
Tip: weekdays are quieter than weekends
4. Downtown, the Riverwalk and Friendship Fountain
For a city look with bridges, the skyline and some edge, downtown and the Southbank Riverwalk deliver. Golden hour into blue hour is where this spot really shines, when the city lights start coming on.
Best for: fashion, bold portraits, brand and content shoots
Best time: sunset into dusk
5. San Marco Square
Classic architecture, the lion fountain and cute storefronts. San Marco feels polished without trying too hard, which makes it great for anyone who wants a clean, stylish backdrop.
Best for: brand content, couples, lifestyle portraits
6. Jacksonville Beach and Atlantic Beach
You can't live in Jax and skip the beach. Sunrise is my favorite here: fewer people, softer light, and that glow on the water you just can't fake.
Best for: families, couples, swimwear and lifestyle
Tip: bring a towel and expect to get your feet wet
7. Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park
Dunes, sea oats, wooded trails and beach all in one park. You can get a variety of looks in a single session without driving anywhere else. There's a small entry fee per vehicle.
Best for: Premium Lifestyle sessions with outfit changes
8. Boneyard Beach at Big Talbot Island
This is the one people ask about. Weathered driftwood trees scattered across the sand make it look like another planet, especially at sunrise. It's a state park, so there's an entry fee, and the tide matters a lot, so we plan the timing together.
Best for: dramatic portraits, editorial and creative concepts
Can't decide? Go studio.
If the weather isn't cooperating or you want a clean, controlled look, a studio session gives you professional lighting and a simple backdrop where you are the whole focus.
How to pick the right spot
Match the location to the vibe you want: city, nature, beach or classic
Think about your outfit colors against the background
Plan around the light. Golden hour and sunrise almost always win
Some parks charge an entry fee or have rules for professional sessions, so we'll confirm the details before shoot day
